MERC is a free event that serves to showcase emergency response personnel’s skills and provide mining families and the general public an insight into the role of emergency rescue teams play in keeping their workplace safe. The event strives to improve emergency safety procedures by exposing competitors to realistic emergency response scenarios, allowing them to put their rigorous ongoing training to the test.

The annual event aligns closely with MineARC’s core values and commitment to continuous improvement in mine safety. We appreciate the opportunity to have been involved with the Mines Emergency Rescue Competition and looks forward to continuing our support in years to come.

MERC WA 2017

Langley Park, located in Perth CBD, Western Australia, once again played host to the 7th annual Mines Emergency Rescue Competition (MERC) over the weekend of the 24th– 26th November 2017.

To support rescue initiatives, MineARC committed sponsorship to a participating mines rescue team – Northern Star Jundee – as well as the First Aid competition event category.

Mine Rescue Event: First Aid Scenario

MineARC’s contribution allowed Northern Star Jundee to purchase team shirts for their participants and key supporters, with the impressive team logo designed by Jundee’s own; Jason Ullrich.

Northern Star Jundee performed impressively, winning 7 out of the 13 event categories, and receiving 1st place in the competition overall – a great reflection of their hard work, training and dedication.  Well done, Jundee!

MineARC’s sponsorship of the First Aid category provided the trophies for the winning competitors, with MineARC’s Australian Service Manager, Brad Whittaker, on hand at the closing ceremony to present the award-winning team. 1st place was the Northern Star Jundee team, followed by Synergy Muja Power in 2nd place and Rio Tinto Iron Ore West in 3rd place. Congratulations to all the teams involved!
