MineARC was recently invited to speak at the 2017 Annual General Meeting of the Zimbabwe Association of Mine Managers (AMMZ), marking the third consecutive year that MineARC has been given the privilege of presenting.
The AGM was held at the Golden Peacock Hotel in Mutare, Zimbabwe, bordering on Mozambique. The event was well attended with close to 40 Mine Managers and Mining Heads and representatives from the Chamber of Mines, the University of Zimbabwe (Mining Department) and the Zimbabwe School of Mines. The AGM coincided with Zimbabwe’s first new president’s inauguration in 37 years, Honorable Emmerson Mnangagwa. Members of the AMMZ are hopeful that newly sworn-in President Mnangagwa will introduce an economic policy to attract foreign investment and stimulate growth in its resource sector.
During the meeting, the key topic of discussion was ‘Managing a Successful Mine in a Volatile Business Environment’. Greater Africa’s Business Development Manager, Jason Van Niekerk, presented MineARC’s suite of products to attendees, focusing on mobile and permanent refuge solutions and the environmentally sustainable underground toilet system EnviroLAV. The range was well received, with interest coming from Zimplats, Mimosa, Unki Platinum, Hwange Colliery, Freda Rebecca and Trojan Nickel Mines.
On the final day of the AGM, Mr Eliakem Hove, the Underground Mining Manager at Freda Rebecca Gold Mine was inducted as the new president of the AMMZ and will hold the position for a two-year term until 2019. Mr Hove replaces Mr Eddington Vere, who was the Association President from 2015 to 2017.

In addition to his new role as the Mine Manager and AMMZ President, Mr Hove also oversees the Regulation Amendment Council; a group responsible for reviewing proposals to changes in mining regulation, with submissions received from divisions AMMZ, the Chamber of Mines and the Ministry of Mines. Mine Managers in the region are also able to propose suggestions. They have until the end of January 2018 to submit these to Council, who then pass their recommendations to the Government for final approvals.
MineARC has since been invited to conduct further technical presentations on emergency safe refuge systems at the School of Mines, the University of Zimbabwe and Midlands State University; a reflection of the value given to MineARC’s presence at the AMMZ AGM, and an excellent indication of the industry’s dedication to the safety of future personnel.
